Über uns

English version below …

About us

The research institute for work, technology and culture (F.A.T.K.) investigates mainly social and cultural change in the world of work with social science methods. The F.A.T.K. was founded in 1987 as a non-profit institute with close links to the university.

We examine changes in companies and administrations, work and company cultures, workplace industrial relations, orientational and behavioural patterns of the different actors as well as the relationships between employers‘ associations and trade unions. We are interested in the societal preconditions and consequences of a changing world of work, with a focus on gender relations, workplace social integration, changing occupations and professions, the societal consciousness of employees and the day-to-day use of new media.

The F.A.T.K. is an interdisciplinary, ideologically and politically independent institute. It is predominantly financed by external funds. Our research aims to combine scientific findings with practical usefulness. In the context of our research projects, publications and through the advisory board of the institute, we engage in dialogue with politics, companies, employers‘ associations and trade unions.

The F.A.T.K. has contacts and cooperation partners at regional, national and international level. It cooperated i.a. with the London School of Economics, the University of Warwick, the Institut des Recherches Economiques et Sociales (IRES) Paris, the Istituto per il Lavoro (IpL) Bologna, the Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaftliches Institut (WSI) of the Hans Böckler Foundation and the Institut der Deutschen Wirtschaft (IW).
